Roundabout Construction Update

By  |

East Baton Rouge Parish Dept. of Public Works: The Joor Road at Gurney Road intersection improvement has been in the initial utility relocation phase of construction. This utility work had been scheduled to be complete by April 19, 2015; however this work, which must be performed by the private utility companies, has yet to be completed. This roadway had been scheduled to be closed this past Monday June 1, 2015; however this was not done to allow the final relocation work by ATT and their contractor to be completed and the new services put on line. Based on the latest discussions with the utility companies, they anticipate this work to be complete by Monday June 8th. While our contractor has been able to move forward with some of the new drainage work, his activities have been restricted based on the existing utility conflicts. Now that the utility work is pending completion, the City-Parish is now in a position to allow our contractor to proceed at full force.
It is anticipated that the road closure that was scheduled for Monday, June 1st will now take place on Monday, June 8th; however close coordination with ATT work crews will continue since we do not want to close the road without the ability for the contractor to fully mobilize. We have also been meeting with the contractor to review the construction phasing and sequences to see what elements of work can be constructed concurrently so as not to extend the construction schedule and to assure that the intersection can be opened to traffic in advance of the upcoming start of school in early August, weather permitting.
