On May 21st Central Masonic  Lodge 442, in partnership with Trinity Union Lodge of Baton Rouge, held the much anticipated graduation of their latest graduates of the Dyslexic students class.
These students completed two plus years of classes and achieved very good results.  All of them saw their grades improve along with their reading and spelling skills.
A great deal of sacrifice went into this program from the students and parents.  The students had to forego many of their after school activities and the parents had to make sure that they got to classes each day rain or shine.   Classes lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes,  Monday through Thursday.   This challenge was gladly met by students and parents as they were seeing the results.
The ceremony  was held in the Lodge on Sullivan Road and a supper was shared by parents, students, friends, and members of the lodge.  After the meal  everyone went upstairs where a program was held that honored the students with their  Certificates of Completion, Diplomas, Trophies, and Gift Certificates.  The smiles of satisfaction and comments of the students gave every member of the Lodge a feeling that it was all very worth the effort put into the project.
This was the 13th class that the Central and Trinity Union Lodge have sponsored in partnership with Blackwater United Methodist Church, who graciously donates the classrooms and campus of the church.  We greatly appreciate their efforts  to  see the projects through.
A new class will hopefully begin in the fall of 2015.  Applications are now being taken for that class and interviews and testing will hopefully begin in early July.
If you know of or have a student that might need help in school and is thought to be Dyslexic,  you can contact Ted Powell  of the Central Lodge at 225-654-3615 or 225-236-2717 for more information and an application.
