Central Private vs Oak Forest
The Central Private Rebels and the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets put on a powerful display on Monday afternoon in a twi-light double header. On a day when 8 homeruns were hit in one game, the Rebels proved to be the stronger team.
Mike Gill of Oak Forest put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0 in the top of the first inning with a solo blast. The Rebels would more than answer that in the bottom of the inning. After Jacob Fryoux walked, Thomas Bourgeois and Brennan Courville hit towering drives over the right field fence. Following a walk by Travis Rose and a double by Logan Lewis, Ridge Perkins ripped a fast ball over the right-center field wall for a 3 run homer to give the Rebels a 6-1 lead after one inning of play.
Perkins homered again in the third inning after starting and winning pitcher Lewis reached on an error. Lewis pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Rebels.
The Yellow Jackets rallied for three runs in the fourth innings with base hits by Tyler
Newstrom, Keegan Pecar, James Peterson, and Chris Primes. Tyler Schultz came in to retire the last two hitters in order stranding runners on second and third.
With the score 8-4 in the fourth, Bourgeois and Courville flexed more muscle hammering back to back homers for a 10-4 Rebel lead.
The Yellow Jackets continued to battle in the fifth inning scoring three runs and loading the bases. Stephen Tate then entered the game and picked up his third save by inducing a pop up to end the inning.
The Rebels pushed runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning to end the game. Freshman Seth Stevens provided the big blow with the first home run of his high school career. The win upped #1 Central Private’s record to 10-0.
Game two of the double header was another offensive explosion for the Rebels. A nine run second provided the catalyst for the Rebel victory. Jason Young picked up his first win of the season with 4 innings of solid pitching.
The second inning began with Travis Rose smashing a stand up double to centerfield.
After a single by Ridge Perkins and a walk to Seth Stevens, Taylor Ort drove home 2 runs with a line drive base hit to left field. Thomas Bourgeois, Brennan Courville, and Logan Lewis had consecutive base hits that scored 4 more runs for the Rebels. Bases loaded walks scored the final 3 runs of the inning. The never say die Yellow Jackets got a 3 run homer by James Peterson in the third inning.
The Rebels scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach. An rbi single by Jason was bunched together with 3 Yellow Jacket errors and 3 walks for the 5 run inning.
Stephen Tate pitched the 5th inning and preserved the 10 run lead that ended the ball game.
