Artists and Crafters Meet Weekly at Magnolia UMC

By  |

artistscrafters    Did you know that there’s a place for artists and crafters from Central or Zachary to gather to share tips, experience, and fellowship, each and every week?
For the past five years, Magnolia United Methodist Church in Central has been home to the Magnolia Painters and Crafters. The group meets on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings; each artists brings his or her own current project and supplies. Magnolia UMC  supplies a large, bright space – the church’s Fellowship Hall – plenty of tables, an art-book library, and hot coffee.
Not to mention “fellowship, support, and good conversation,” according to Gwin Brister. Brister, a member of the Art League of Central, brings his work with him on Fridays – usually pencils and acrylics. Margaret Shipley, a member of Magnolia UMC and also a painter, mentioned the information and experiences that the artists exchange. She said she loves to see other artists’ works in progress.
On a recent Friday, Dawn Euwer of Central, a member of Magnolia UMC, was working on a craft project: a prayer blanket for a sick child. She commented that it was her first time with the Painters and Crafters, and she found there was “certainly a range of topics discussed!”
You are invited to join the Painters and Crafters – bring your painting or craft project with you, and plan to learn and share in what one member called “a great support group.”
The Magnolia Painters and Crafters meet every Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m., and every Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Magnolia United Methodist Church is located at 16024 Greenwell Springs Rd. in Central, 1 mile north of the Central Thruway, on the right. For more information, call the church at 225-261-2789.
