CAPA Corner: The True Message of Christmas

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21.
    You ask 10 people what is the biggest challenge facing the USA today, and you would probably get 10 different answers!  Or perhaps let’s ask 10 people what is the biggest challenge facing you and your family today.  Again 10 different answers!
    But I think if you asked God, His answer might surprise you. I think He would ultimately refer back to one issue – the issue of sin in people.
    Sin in us is the root cause of all the problems we face in our lives and in the world today.  Sin rears its ugly head in so many different arenas every day.  Families are split apart, children are neglected or abused, politicians lust for power, businessmen get greedy and make dishonest decisions.  Technology, which can be such a great benefit to mankind in so many ways, is used for personal gain, corruption, or outright crime!
     In addition to all this, God’s churches often lack the power and presence of God because of sin in the members.  The very place where God wants to pour out His Spirit to love, heal, save, and encourage His people becomes a place of pride, hurt, selfishness, criticism,  pain, and well, let’s admit it, SIN!  
    Perhaps you may say that God’s answer is too simplistic. Perhaps you may say it is too religious and not very practical or relevant to my life today.  But I say God is right on.  Mary and Joseph were told to give their baby boy the name Jesus, because He was born, He lived, He died, and He rose again, to save His people from their sins! And in doing so, He meets our greatest needs, solves our biggest problems, and makes it possible for us to live full, rich, and abundant lives.
    Trust Jesus this Christmas!  The little baby boy will save you from your sins!
