1927 Auditorium Renovation Plans Alive; School Board and Cultural Foundation Move Toward Agreement

The Central Cultural Foundation has engaged the architect to draw up plans for the renovation of the 1927 Central School Auditorium, known by many as “The Old Girls’ Gym.” The action comes after Monday night’s school board meeting in which the board laid out the next steps required to move toward saving the building to create a cultural center and history museum for the Central community.
Under the current plan, the Cultural Foundation will be allowed six months to present a renovation and use plan for approval by the school board.  Cultural Foundation Chairman Dave Freneaux commented, “We appreciate all that the school board has done to allow this project to move forward.  Fortunately, two community members have donated the $3,500 that the initial architectural designs will cost.  This will allow us to move quickly to get final approval from the school board to proceed.”
Freneaux continued, “Our first priority will be to fix the roof trusses which took the building out of use 15 years ago, then to quickly restore the exterior siding and windows so that the community will have a visually pleasing building on this historic property.”
