Football Is Back: Teams Begin Fall Practice, New Sports Radio Show Starts
By Dave Freneaux
For three months each fall there is no bigger gathering of the Central community than Friday night under the lights at the Central High and Central Private football stadiums. It is routine to have over three thousand in attendance on any given Friday… and it is that time again.
The Wildcats are finishing up a week of “Boot Camp” near Lafayette and the season is just weeks away, with scrimmages and the jamboree even sooner. Schedules for both teams are on page 5, so make your plans to come out and support the teams, the bands, flags, cheerleaders and dancers.
The Wildcats, led by Coach Sid Edwards, are riding a streak of six straight District Championships and will be on the prowl for a seventh this year. Central Private is under the leadership of their new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Joey Sanchez. Sanchez was most recently the AD at Zachary High and was on staff with Coach Sid Edwards’ Redemptorist teams that won State Championships in 2002 and 2003.
