Thanks for Serving

Next Tuesday, June 24th, will mark the last Council meeting for most of Central’s elected officials, with their elected terms ending June 30, 2014.  Central Speaks joins the citizens of Central who thank them for their service and for leaving Central as a growing, vibrant, fiscally sound city.
Mayor Mac Watts, Council Members Louis DeJohn and Ralph Washington, along with Chief Doug Browning, were appointed to their positions by Louisiana’s Governor when Central was incorporated and were twice re-elected.  Aaron Moak won his seat on the Council in Central’s first election in 2006, and Tony LoBue was elected in 2010.
Accomplishments during the tenure of Central’s first administrations, although too numerous to list, include privatizing city services, building a surplus of over $8 million, creating Master Plans for Land Use & Development, Transportation, and Sewer Infrastructure.  In addition, Central has adopted and revised its entire Unified Development Code, launched flood studies that stand to save Central residents millions in insurance premiums, and created an all-volunteer police department.
Others contributing to these accomplishments over the first nine years of Central’s existence include 2005 appointed Council Members Pete Humble, Joan Lansing, and Carolyn Patterson, along with 2006 elected Council Member Lucky Ross, and Wayne Messina who was elected for a second term this year.
