Mayor’s Office Master Plan Recap
Central Speaks contacted Centrals’ Chief Administrative Officer for comment on Tuesday’s rezoning ordinance. Mr. Barrow offered the following explanation:
In regards to the recommended Zoning Map for the city of Central, this is the next-to-last piece of the puzzle in our Master Plan completion that we have been working on since 2007. The final piece will be the City Center Overlay District. Numerous public meetings have been held to gather community input, starting with the SDAT public meetings in 2007 and continuing through the Zoning Commission meeting in which the Zoning Map was recommended for adoption on April 24, 2014.
The Master Plan Land Use Plan was adopted after much public input on September 23, 2010 with no citizens speaking in objection. The Master Land Use Plan explained the densities of each of the proposed zoning districts, including the Rural/Agriculture District and the various residential districts. The Planning Commission has been using the Master Plan and the various land use densities since September 2010. Numerous other public meetings have been held to work on the new Zoning Ordinance over the last four years. The new zoning ordinance, which sets the densities and lot sizes for residential properties in fair relation to the Master Land Use Plan, was adopted November 12, 2013 by the city council after public hearings.
Hundreds of citizens, along with professional planners and land use attorneys, have attended information meetings and public workshops, and their input was instrumental in designing the Master Land Use Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and the Zoning Map over the last 7 years.
