David Hooper has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.  Only 2% of boys in the scouting program achieve this rank.    David is in the 9th grade and an honor student at Central High School.  He is a drummer and performs with the Central High School Jazz Band, Covenant Community Church Worship team and other local bands.  David is a member of Troop 169, chartered by Trinity Lutheran Church.
David began in the Scouting program when he was in first grade as a part of Cub Scout Pack 169.  He achieved the Arrow of Light award, which is the highest award in Cub Scouting.  He transferred to Troop 169 when he finished 5th grade.   David has held various leadership positions in the troop, including Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Chaplin.  As a Boy Scout, he participated in several outdoor programs and activities. These included summer camp programs at Skymont Scout Camp in Tennessee during 2010 and Camp Powhatan in Virginia during 2011.  In 2012, David participated in a 50-mile high adventure back packing excursion at BSA Camp Orr in the Buffalo National River Park in Arkansas.  In 2013, he participated in a 90-mike high adventure back packing excursion at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
For his Eagle Scout project, David renovated a church storage building and converted it into a facility that could be used for a clothing ministry.  He coordinated with the troop and church membership to sort and move items in the building for storage or disposal.  They then renovated and repaired the portion of structure to be used for the ministry and applied fresh paint to the interior and exterior. The remainder of the building was demolished. The cost for the project was just over $1,500 and required approximately 200 man hours to complete.
