Lead Is a Four-Letter Word

In October Central Middle had a luncheon for some of the leaders in the school.
When you entered the room, you received a nice homemade meal and drink of your choice. The teachers and the guest speaker, Coach Sid, did their best to make you feel welcome as you came in. You could tell each and every adult in that room was proud of the students, even if they did not know them. I found it great that Mr. Fountain, some of the Central Middle staff, and Coach Sid took time out of their schedules to make a nice meal and award the worthy students with pins. It really shows that the staff cares about student leaders in the school.
The guest speaker, Coach Sid, decided to give everyone an inspirational speech about how to be a better leader. One part that I really took to heart was when he walked to the window by the courtyard and showed us at least three kids sitting by themselves. It was then I noticed being a leader isn’t just about setting yourself straight, but also about helping others in the process. He told us that even a little gesture of kindness can go a long way. He said that by going up to one of those three kids and actually making an effort to be friends with them we could make a difference.
You never know what people are going through, and by going up to them and talking to them you might help in a major way. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you see someone sitting alone, go up to them and talk with them. If they don’t want to talk to you, don’t give up, no matter what. You don’t know what their situation might be, but they might really appreciate just having someone to hang out with.
So try and be a leader; everyone needs someone to look up to. If you do try to be a leader in Central, don’t do it for the food or the award, do it because it is just the right thing to do. Be a leader everywhere you go. Remember, leaders don’t wait to lead they just do the right thing.
