Over 500 children in 4 Central schools and 2 home schools received a Websters Student Dictionary from the Republican Women of Central as part of their "Dictionary Project" for Education and Literacy. Schools .included Central Intermediate, Central Private, St. Aloysius Catholic School, and Galilee Baptist School. RWC held a well attended and successful fashion show fundraiser last March to support educational projects, provide the dictionaries as well as donating $500 to Louisiana Key Academy for Dyslexia and for a $2,000 college scholarship to be awarded to a deserving Central area graduate in May of 2014.
Education and Literacy Chairman Maudell Hill has led RWC's efforts for 3 years and this year Central Intermediate School 5th Grade Teacher Misty Dougherty Robinson co-chaired the committee, who are delighted to present the dictionaries each October. RWC President Debbie Doughterty, Treasurer Louise Rauls, 2nd Vice President and Fundraising Chairman Betsy Barnes, First Vice President June Dupuy, Recording Secretary Tommie Morden, and Immediate Past President Joan Lansing assisting in preparing and delivering the dictionaries to students.
RWC plans to continue these programs, and would like to thank the generous sponsors and participants in our activities for making this endeavor possible. For more information about membership and sponsorship, please email
