BYOQ About Tax Election

By  |
CENTRAL – Colorful flyers featuring question marks are popping up all over Central and surrounding areas inviting "everyone" to attend Central's "BYOQ". What is BYOQ?
The City of Central Republican Coalition, a grassroots movement gaining momentum rapidly among area citizens, is hosting the "BYOQ – Bring Your Own Questions" event featuring EBRP Sheriff Sid Gautreaux, Fire Chief Bill Porche and Central School Superintendent Mike Faulk to answer all questions over coffee and dessert regarding the upcoming property tax renewal elections affecting law enforcement, fire protection service and the highly successful Central Community School System.
The informational free event is open to the public and  takes place on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Kristenwood Catering and Reception Hall, 14025 Greenwell Springs Road in Central. Doors open at 6:30p.m. and the BYOQ begins at 7 p.m.  No RSVP is necessary, everyone welcome.
Although the event is free, donations of non-perishable food and financial contributions are being accepted  to support "Trevor's Wish" a project with the Central High School Student Council, announced by Ashton Kennedy, Council President. All proceeds will be donated the Baton Rouge Food Bank.
"The point of the coffee and dessert gathering with these speakers is to bring families and neighbors together to speak to those in charge and responsible, not to persuade citizens one way or another on the topic of these taxes and renewals. It is to give them the correct information so they can make their own informed decision," said Debbie Dougherty, one of the incorporators of the City of Central Republican Coalition.
"Central citizens are intelligent and committed to improving our community," she said, adding  "Parents and property owners understand the election needs to be based on facts and not misinformation."
Taxes are not an entertaining subject, but those responsible for budgets and expenses will be there to meet citizens and answer the tough questions. Families of 4,000+ school aged children in the area of encouraged to attend to ask questions of Superintendent Faulk. Renewal tax elections can make significant changes to safety, fire protection and quality of education in Central schools.
The City of Central Republican Coalition will also accept new members, however membership is not necessary to attend. Annual dues are $10 and members must be registered Republicans with an interest in the Central community. Residency is not a requirement for membership.
