Central Football Suffers First Loss, 34-31 to Scotlandville

By  |

In a game marked by big plays on turnovers and penalties, the Wildcats moved to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in district.  In the first two minutes of the game the Hornets turned the ball over twice deep in their own territory, leading to short scoring drives by Central and a score of 15-0.  Later in the half Central blocked a punt in the end zone for a safety.  In all, Scotlandville lost two punts, a fumble and had a punt and an extra point blocked while Central threw one interception.

The final story was told as Scotlandville, aided by two huge pass interferance penalties, drove 70 yards beginning with less than 6 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter to go ahead 3 points.  Central’s next posession ended with an incompletion at midfield.   Then with 6 seconds remaining Central got one last shot from their own 29 and fell short on a completed pass “hook and ladder” play.

Central is still in control of its own destiny the next two Friday nights.  First, undefeated Denham comes to Wildcat stadium next Friday on Halloween.  Then Central travels to meet Catholic at Memorial Stadium the following Friday.  Wins in these two games will assure Central of at least a tie for first place in the district.
