Shop Central First

Where does the money come from that pays for our City Services, employee salaries, City road improvements, and additional police patrols?  Taxes, right?  Well, yes and no.  You may think that your property or Louisiana income taxes pay for these City related expenses.  The fact is that all of these important line items and others are funded by local sales taxes you pay when you shop Central businesses, as the City does not collect property tax.  With very few exceptions such as auto sales taxes and some items delivered to your home, money spent outside of Central provides nothing for Central’s City budget.
It is estimated that we have a rate of 49 % sales tax leakage.  That means that almost half of sales tax dollars are spent outside of Central by Central residents to support other cities and communities.  While we don’t have opportunities to make all of our purchases within our boundaries yet, much of that spending could be kept at home.
• Central Community School System ranks second in the state after only six years in existence.  Sales tax dollars help fuel that.  Whether or not you have children in the system, you benefit by having increased property values.
• Central has a low crime rate.  Sales tax funds pay for providing additional police patrols.
• Central is a medium sized city with a small town feel.  That’s partially because we do business with one another—our neighbors, our family and friends.
• Your sales tax money is used to expertly plan a smart, green, sustainable and beautiful City as we grow.
• Central is working a plan to improve roadways and traffic movement for years to come, partially funded by your sales tax dollars.
