By Louisiana Wing Commander Col. Art Scarbrough
Cadet Palasi was presented the General Ira C. Eaker Award by Louisiana Wing Commander Col. Art Scarbrough at the recent meeting of the Capitol City Squadron. Following the award presentation the squadron members had a reception in her honor. The Wing Commander said “ her service, dedication, and devotion to her duties were far above the best.” “We are very proud of her and we will expect that she will be just as dedicated as a senior member in the future.”
C/LtCol Mary Palasi of Capitol City Composite Squadron has experienced many great moments as a participant in the cadet program recording 20 achievements, having attended five encampments in as many states. Holding staff positions as logistics, public affairs, leadership, aerospace, operations officer, as well as being flight commander and cadet commander but this is her greatest accomplishment yet.
To obtain this award she had to write a 300 word essay speech that took at least 5 minutes on a selected CAP topic. She also had to be active in the character development program, and to pass a physical fitness test. Requirements for the award include a resilient attitude, use empathy, articulate, show responsibility, actively develops and mentors cadet officers, set long-term goals for the unit, direct multiple teams and manages multiple tasks are things that she is expected to do and she does each one exceeding well.
Along with those accomplishments Cadet Palasi will be going to the United Kingdom this year as an International Air Cadet Exchange and during the summer she will be cadet commander for the Civil Air Patrol Louisiana encampment, assistant commander in Texas and commander at the Tennessee encampment.
