Matthew 22:1-5
Vs. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
Vs. 5 BUT THEY MADE LIGHT OF IT, AND WENT THEIR WAYS, ONE TO HIS FARM, ANOTHER TO HIS MERCHANDISE:
Apathy = lack of feeling or emotion
= lack of interest or concern: indifference
They made light of it and went THEIR WAYS. They were called, bidden, invited to the marriage of the king’s son and paid no attention to the CALL. The greatest invitation they would ever receive and blew it off. Their interest and their concern was for their farm, their merchandise, their things and stuff and such. “What does it matter?”, is the attitude.
Let’s not be apathetic to the call of God. Scripture tells us what God has called us unto and to be:
Called to be saints, called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ, called you into the grace of Christ, called unto liberty [to serve one another], called you unto his kingdom and glory, called unto holiness and not uncleanness, called with an holy calling, called unto his eternal glory, called us to glory and virtue, and called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.
This call is more than a ticket to heaven, it’s more than just salvation – it’s things that accompany salvation. True salvation is seen in those who continue to heed the call of God. Don’t be one to have apathetic faith because that is exactly what it is – ‘A Pathetic Faith’.
Apathy is a dangerous path that can lead to apostasy (abandonment of faith). Repent and change directions from that apathetic path and move toward a more sympathetic path and be compassionate and sensitive to God’s calling. Show greater interest and concern regarding the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. It matters more than anything else. Heed the call of God and be blessed.
