City and School Board Discuss Old Central Middle Property

By  |
Monday night Central's Mayor, City Council, School Board and School Superintendent met to discuss possibilities for the historic school site at Hooper and Sullivan.  City representatives shared that final steps are being taken to select a site for "City Center" which would likely include City Hall, green space and light retail development.  School Board representatives discussed their interest in finding the best use for the property, possibly including permanent offices for the School System administration.
There was much discussion about demolition and construction costs for various scenarios, but all seemed to agree that the football stadium and historic 1927 gym would likely remain.  Citizens spoke and encouraged the officials to continue to seek a solution which could meet the needs of both the School Board and the City on this property.  The process to select a site for City Center is in its final months.
