Working Together for a Cleaner City at Central Cleanup Day

By  |

Central Leadership for Tomorrow (CLT) hosted the second annual Central Cleanup Day last Saturday in honor of Earth Day and in preparation for this year’s Cooking in Central.  Over fifty volunteers worked for three hours Saturday morning to pick up trash from the roadsides around Central.  One major project (pictured below) was the cul-de-sac in Central Woods, where people had been driving by dumping large items.  Thank you to everyone who helped pick up trash and to all of the sponsors who contributed in various ways to help make this event a success for another year.
A few simple steps can be taken to keep our city clean, aside from simply not throwing trash on the ground.  Place all of your trash at home and at the office in trash bags before throwing it in cans or dumpsters.  Tie up the bags to keep stray garbage from flying out of the garbage trucks when trash is collected.  After you spend a day tailgating or working outdoors, put all of the trash from the bed of your pickup truck into a trash bag, as cans and other empty containers can fly out of the truck.  Lastly, if you are a smoker, try to refrain from throwing cigarette butts out of car windows.  Cigarette butts are extremely difficult to pick up from the sides of the roads.  As a community, a little extra effort can go a long way toward keeping our city clean.
