Central High Varsity Bowling (12-0, 1-0 Playoffs) has quickly become one of the best teams in not only the Baton Rouge area, but in the state of Louisiana. And with only one senior on this year’s roster, it appears Central will be a contender for District and State titles for years to come. After Monday’s (3-25-13) action in the Regionals of the LHSAA State Playoffs, the 2013 District 5A Champions showed they’re ready to make a run towards a “Final Four” appearance which would be a first in CHS’s history. In Round 1, Central dismantled Baton Rouge High (0-12) for the third time this season.
Round 1 was a quick match as #1 seeded Wildcats blew out #16 Baton Rouge High, 26-1. Only needing 14 points to win a match, Central wrapped up the match after 2 games by sweeping all points possible. Up 16-0, The Wildcats finished the match by winning Game 3 7-1. Sean Murphy (Junior) led all scorers with a 224 game and 582 series, followed by Jacob Garretson (Sophomore) with a 218/573, Kevin Kennedy (Junior) with a 191/533 and Sarah Leduff (Freshman) with a 170/477. After the scores were all added up, Central won by over a 1000 pins, 3060-1944.
Central’s winning streak is now up to 13 matches and dating back to last season the Wildcats have won 23 of their last 24 matches. Central moved on to Round 2 of the Regionals on Tuesday March 26 at Metro Bowl against #8 Catholic (7-5). Central’s coaches would once again like to thank all the parents, teachers, students and friends for coming out to support the team this past week.
*Update: Central won their second match in the regional tournament and will move on to the bi-regional on April 4th in New Orleans!
