City Center – Possible Sites

By  |

The seven areas identified in this map are being considered as possible recommended locations for Central's "City Center."  The process of developing a Master Plan for the zoning and development of Central is a study and a recommendation, and none of these sites could be developed unless the property owners were willing.  Possible sites have been graded based on input from citizens over a number of public meetings, and these seven sites were the most likely candidates.  Final recommendations are expected to be made by June.
Central grew as a residential suburb of Baton Rouge, and therefore has no "downtown."  This City Center concept seeks to remedy that by bringing together  elements of the community to create a "small town downtown area."  It would be home to City Hall and possibly other operations such as Police, Permit Offices, Post Office, etc.  The vision for this area will likely include green space, paths and possibly a lake.  The surrounding area would be zoned so that commercial office, restaurant, retail and residential areas could grow in adjacent property.  To see the presentation on City Center and other documents related to the Master Plan, go to www.CentralGov.com under the City Documents tab and select Master Plan.
