Ronny Hinson and Mike Payne wrote a song in the 1984 “When He was on the Cross” and the chorus of the song reads:
He knew me, yet He loved me. He whose glory makes the heavens shine.
So unworthy of such mercy, yet when He was on the cross, I was on His mind.
Believe it or not, we have always been on the mind of God. That, in and of itself, is a tremendously reassuring piece/peace of information! The prophet Jeremiah was told, “While you were yet in your mother’s womb I knew you and ordained you to be a prophet.” Later God tells Jeremiah, “I know the thoughts I have towards you, My plans for you are good!” Many people refuse to believe there is a God, who created us, cares for us, has great plans for us and whose thoughts are about us continually. However, I am experiencing the goodness of God in my life, so even if you think I’m dreaming, don’t wake me up! Sometimes, with the busy responsibilities of life, it is even possible for us to forget how important we are to God. Often, we need to remind ourselves of just how much we were and still are on the mind God!
Heb 1:10
"You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. NKJV
1 Peter 1:20
He (Christ) indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you NKJV
God created us and knows all about us. The amazing fact is, despite what He knows, He still loves us! From the very beginning, God made arrangements to redeem man. John 3:16 reminds us that God loved us so much, that He gave Jesus to be the payment for our sins! In the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus reinforced God’s desire to reach out to us. In the parable Jesus highlights the fact that the shepherd would leave the 99 safe sheep to go out and find the 1 lost sheep. Make no mistake about it; Jesus knew what was on God’s mind, what it would take to accomplish it, and was at stake!
Jesus knew he had to go through the experience of the cross in order for us to have our sins forgiven and our relationship restored with God. Paul states, that for the joy that was set before Him, Christ endured the cross! He cleared the way for us to have our relationship with God restored. Even though we were undeserving God extended His love, grace and mercy to us! So much so, that we are no longer strangers or foreigners but we are now sons who can call God our Father! During this Easter season, remember that Jesus had to go through the cross so the Father could receive us and call us His sons! Why? Because we are important to God and We are on His mind!
Have a Blessed Easter,
Ron Erickson
