Central High (10-0) on Wednesday (3-13-13) ran through Scotlandville (7-3) to wrap up their first District Championship in school history, extended their school record winning streak (regular season) to 10 matches and set yet another school series record.
Earlier in the week Central set a new school series record of 3214 against Denham Springs and on Wednesday the Wildcats shattered that record with a 3358 series! Here to win a District Title, Central would come out on fire in Game 1 against Scotlandville and were determined to never let the Hornets in the mach. Central would win Game 1 6-2 and 1080-1020 Total Pins. Game 1 was headed by Sarah Leduff (Freshman) with a 228, followed by Jacob Garretson (Sophomore) with a 221 and Bryan Waites (Senior & Captain) with a 199. Scotlandville continued to bowl good in Game 2 but on this day with the way Central was bowling, good wasn’t nearly enough. Scotlandville would roll a respectable 1008 in Game 2, but Central beat that by over 100 pins with an 1128 to result in another 6-2 win. The stellar bowling would lead the Wildcats to a 12-4 advantage after two games. Garretson was high in Game 2 with a 232 and was followed by Leduff with a 201.
Central closed out the match and the District 5A Championship in Game 3 by winning 5-3 and 1150-1049 in Total Pins. The 1150 also put the finishing touches on yet another new school series record with a 3358 (against Scotlandville’s 3077). Central would win the match 20-7. The final game was led by Garretson with a 254, Kevin Kennedy (Junior) with a 202 and Sean Murphy (Junior) with a 194. Overall, Garretson’s 707 series was high for the Wildcats (and set a new school record for Boys Series and his 1st LHSAA 700+ series), followed by Leduff’s 600 (her 1st LHSAA 600+ series and only the 3rd girl in Central history to roll a 600+ series), Waites’ 541, Murphy’s 507, Young’s 503 and Kennedy’s 500. Proving this was a complete team effort, this marked the first time that every Wildcat rolled at least a 500+ series. With the District Title locked upped, Central will try to wrap up an undefeated season on Monday (3-18-13) against Zachary (3-8) at Metro Bowl and then on Wednesday (3-20-13) against Catholic (7-4) at All Star Lanes, both matches are at 3:20pm. With the wins, Central will wrap an undefeated season and should receive a #1 Seed in the State Playoffs in two weeks.
