C4 Report: Tribute to a Star

By  |

Last week we talked about the Awards & Installations Banquet, “Members – The Stars of the Chamber”.  My goal over the next few weeks was to highlight the various winners in each category.  However, those articles will have to go on hold for one more week.  This week I want to give tribute to a long standing business owner in our community that truly was a “Star of the Chamber”!
On Wednesday, January 14, 2013, Dennis Lewis, long time business owner of Lewis’ Wrecker Services, passed away after his battle with cancer.  For over 30 years Dennis operated a successful business in the Central Area. In 1980 Dennis assumed ownership of Lewis’ Wrecker Service, which was started by his parents Finnon and Ruth Lewis in 1956.  Dennis was a long-standing member of CABA, The Central Area Business Association, which later became The City of Central Chamber of Commerce in 2005.   Besides being an active business owner in our community, Dennis served on the Board of Directors for the Central Volunteer Fire Department and for many years was an active participant in coordinating the Central Christmas Parade. Over the last several years, Dennis was known as the one “towing” Santa’s sleigh.
To operate a business for over 30 years shows persistence, consistent work ethic, and ingenuity! We appreciate all the years of hard work, dedication, and service that Dennis provided to our community. Last Wednesday, Dennis Lewis took his “final ride” and on Tuesday of this week he was laid to rest.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all those associated with Lewis’ Wrecker Services.
