In Memoriam: Roderick “Mitchell” Bourgeois

    Roderick “Mitchell” Bourgeois, 68, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 21, 2012. He was born on April 6, 1944 to Hardy and Eola Bourgeois of Church Point, LA. Funeral services were held at Journey Church, located at 17407 Greenwell Springs, LA 70739. Funeral services included a visitation on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm, plus a “Celebration of Life” memorial service on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 12 noon, followed by the burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Denham Springs, LA. 
    Mitchell is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 44 years, and three sons: Rod (Sarah) Bourgeois of Old Greenwich, CT; Russell (Jessica) Bourgeois of Satsuma, LA; and Ross Bourgeois of Denham Springs, LA. He has four beloved grandchildren: Daniel, Mark, Alaynah, and Conner Mitchell. His five brothers are: Carl (Evelyn) Bourgeois of Church Point, LA; Terrell (fiancee Judy) Bourgeois of North Carolina; Grady (Liz) Bourgeois of Carencro, LA; Peter (Sue) Bourgeois of Lafayette, LA; and Bryan Bourgeois of Church Point, LA. His sister is Janice (Jim) Murray of Church Point, LA. Former sisters-in-law are Margie and Diane.
    Speakers at the funeral will include Pastor Jay Coleman (Journey Church) and Benny & Nancy Reppond (Christian Life Center of Opelousas, LA). Pallbearers at the funeral were Mitchell’s three sons (Rod, Russell, Ross), Jim Murray, Warren Fightmaster, and Carroll Clark. Mitchell’s five brothers and friends from Journey Church were honorary pallbearers.
    Mitchell was a 1962 graduate of Church Point High School and a 1966 graduate of Northwestern State University. He coached basketball in Arnaudville, LA, then started an insurance business career, during which he was the top salesman in the US for two insurance companies. Mitchell was invested to service to his home churches. He played the varied roles of Treasurer, Trustee, bible study teacher, and painter of new buildings. In recent years, he was an Elder at Journey Church. With a love for interacting with people and a penchant for contributing humor, he especially treasured his roles leading the Greeting Ministry at Journey Church and serving as an altar prayer worker. He will be greatly missed by his wife, sons, and loved ones. 
    Barbara wishes to thank the Journey Church family, the Zachary High School family, Janice and Jim Murray, Rusty Jackson, Clay Colborn, St. Joseph’s Hospice, Carpenter House, doctors, physical therapists, and Central’s Fire Department EMS Staff.
