Microsurfacing Finished on Gurney and Triple B Roads

The city of Central has completed another capital improvements project in November 2012 involving microsurfacing of two streets, Gurney Rd and Triple B Rd. Microsurfacing is a popular pavement preservation tool that extends the life of streets by years and costs much less than a full overlay. Vance Brothers was the contractor.
Microsurfacing involves a thin layer of pavement that helps seal cracks on roadways with a sturdy base, which prevents water from entering the cracks and eroding the pavement and base. Gurney Rd and Triple B Rd were chosen due to the old age of the roadways and the number of cracks in the pavement. The total cost of the project was approximately $125,000 for the three miles of microsurfacing overlay. A normal overlay rehab project would cost approximately $125,000 for just one mile. So, microsurfacing is a cost-efficient method of extending the life of roadways that still have a good base.
The city is looking forward to selecting several streets next year for another round of microsurfacing. The city is also preparing for full overlay and rehabilitation work on streets in Amber Lakes and Village Lakes subdivisions, as well as Washington Lane and Planchet Rd between Frenchtown Rd and Thibodeaux Rd. The city council approved funds at the last council meeting for coring tests so that the city’s engineering firm can begin to prepare construction plans.
