The Central boys swim team finished 7th in the City Meet last Sunday, which is their best finish since 2009. The 118 points were good enough to finish ahead of district rivals Zachary and Walker, and just one place behind Denham Springs.
Leading the way for the Wildcats were the relays. The 200 medley relay finished 4th while the 200 freestyle relay finished 6th.
Individually, Matthew Arnold finished 6th in the 500 freestyle in a personal best time, while he finished 7th in the 100 backstroke. Daniel Parker also had a great meet swimming personal best times in both his events. His times were good enough to finish 9th in the 50 freestyle and 7th in the 100 breaststroke. Sean Murphy also swam his personal best times in his two events. Sean finished 11th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 500 freestyle.
Kade McAdams, who has been within one second of qualifying for the state time in the 100 freestyle for a month, reached his goal by swimming the 100 freestyle in 57.72 seconds. Kade placed in the top 16 of the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
The coaches were pleased to see the team handle the pressure of the City Meet and perform at their best. Much of the success in personal best times can be attributed to the detailed work of Coach Mary Hodges who focused on minor technical aspects of swimming in the practices leading up to the City Meet.
The Wildcats will close the season at the State Meet in Sulphur, November 16-17. The entire team, boys and girls, will participate at the meet. Individual qualifiers are: Matthew Arnold, Sean Murphy, Kade McAdams, Aaron Raggio, Ty Wilkins, and Daniel Parker.
