CAPA Corner: Words of Encouragement from the Central Area Pastor’s Association

Valley-walking can be tough! Weathering certain storms in life can take stoutness. Beyond the platitudes of well-wishers lies the creeping shadow of a storm that desires to grip all valley-walkers   with coldness and fear. Our enemy is hopelessness-when we allow the storm to become the reality we live within rather than trust. Trust is the key component for all those traveling in a valley. Let me encourage you, that even though it is indeed our Lord at times that leads us straight into certain storms, He never leaves us alone within that storm. The Psalmist says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…” He is always with us! So what could be the purpose for challenges that come our way in the valleys? Only God knows the reasons for all of life's storms, but let me suggest a reason for some storms-revelation!
I believe that revelation comes to us much more often in the valleys of life, because it's there we drown out the noise of the surrounding world and listen more carefully for our Lord's voice. The shadows can  reveal our  faith- our 'trust-culture'. They can be strong indicators of whether we're on the narrow path or on a journey of our own making. Trust is the key. Where do you place yours? Storms and valleys have a way of helping us with this question.
