Central defeated Woodlawn 57-34 and posted 538 yards from scrimmage in their third victory of the season. Woodlawn had a few big plays, but couldn’t match the offensive consistency of the Wildcats.
Central’s Lamontae Juneau scored on a 15 yard run with 7:31 left in the first quarter. Juneau tallied 161 yards rushing on 14 carries and 4 touchdowns for the game.
The Panthers standout kicker Barnes put Woodlawn on the board with a 22 yard field goal and Panther quarterback Brooks completed a 62 yard pass to Stewart for a touchdown to give Woodlawn a 10-8 first and only lead of the game.
Central scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter and never looked back scoring seven
touchdowns in the game.
The highlight of the second half was a 59 yard touchdown run by Central’s Justin Vessel. Central reserves got a lot of game action playing most of the fourth quarter.
Senior quarterback Brett Courville continued to rack up impressive numbers in this game going 11 of 14 passing for 140 yards with one touchdown. He rushed for 73 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown and scored twice on two-point conversions. Devon Gales rushed for 20 yards and had 70 yards receiving. Gary Triplett totaled 108 yards in the first half before leaving the game with a high ankle sprain.
Defensively Ashton Stokes and Kevin Henry led the Wildcats with 5.5 tackles each. Defensive end Dalton Holdman had 3 tackles for loss. Overall Central’s defense was steady including holding the Panthers to 3 of 12 on third down attempts.
In a post game interview Coach Sid Edwards had this to say about the team’s performance, “You can’t say we don’t play hard. We played with a purpose. I’m particularly pleased with the stand my guys made at the end here to hold them to a field goal. I’m at an age now that I’m not going to look at victory and try to dissect it. This one is in the books.”
