Neighbors reported to the Central Fire Department early Tuesday morning that smoke was observed coming from a home at 4133 Daytona Dr.  CFD received the call at 6:16 am and on arrival firefighters were met by neighbors stating they were sure some of the occupants were out of town; however they were not sure if all of the occupants were gone.  Firefighters forced their way into the home with one crew attacking a kitchen fire and another crew performing a search throughout the home.  Fortunately the home was free of occupants and the fire was quickly extinguished.  Unfortunately, four cats perished due to heavy smoke conditions in the home while a fifth cat was found alive hiding in a closet.
The fire resulted in approximately $30,000.00 damage to the home and contents with electrical issues suspected as the cause of the fire.  Eastside and Baton Rouge Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
