CHS Swim Team Kicks Off a New Season

By  |

Despite missing a week of practice due to Hurricane Isaac, the Central swim team opened the season with an impressive performance last Saturday morning.  The boys, despite having only 6 swimmers, tallied 159.5 points which was good enough for sixth place.  The girls team finished in 7th place with 71 points despite only having 5 swimmers.

Both boys relay teams finished third overall.  The 200 medley relay of Sean Murphy, Daniel Parker, Matthew Arnold, and Kade McAdams finished in 1:57.31.  Meanwhile, the 200 freestyle relay comprised of Matthew Arnold, Aaron Raggio, Daniel Parker, and Kade McAdams finished in 1:44.85.

Individually, sophomore Matthew Arnold finished first in both of his races, the 500 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke.  Both times were fast enough to qualify him for the state meet in those events.

Junior Kade McAdams finished 9th and 11th in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle respectively.  Kade qualified for state in the 50 Free, and swam a personal best in the 100 free by 4 seconds.

Junior Daniel Parker finished 10th and 4th in the 50 free and 100 backstroke respectively.  Daniel also qualified for state in both events.

Junior Sean Murphy finished tied for 5th in the 100 yard backstroke and 4th in the 500 yard freestyle.  Sean qualified for state in the backstroke.

On the girls side, senior Jessica Hooper led the way with a 4th place finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

Coaches Scott Osborne and Mary Hodges were very proud of the Wildcats performance as many swimmers picked up where they left off last year and qualified for state. In addition, the coaches were proud of the leadership of senior captains Tara Termini, Hollie Michelli, and Jessica Hooper.  Also, the first time performances of Hope Michelli, Lyndee Debetaz, and Collin Cashio showed a lot of promise.

The Central swim team will be in action again on Saturday, September 22 at Crawfish Aquatics.
