An avid sportsman, hunter and life long resident of Central, Charles Wilford Dougherty was born February 12, 1927 and passed away July 17, 2012.
He retired from ExxonMobil in 1986 with 39 years service. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Naval Transport Division, evacuating our prisoners of war home. Charles received an Honorable Discharge, February 27, 1947.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frankie Forbes Dougherty, sons Kenneth Dougherty and wife Debbie, Ronald Dougherty and wife Pam, daughter Sheri Dougherty Davis and husband Eric; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Alvie E.Dougherty,Jr., sister, Earline Spurgeon Noble, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Campbell.
Preceding him in death were his son, Larry Charles Dougherty, granddaughter, Casey Nicole Dougherty, parents, Alvie E. Dougherty, Jr. and Olive Noble Dougherty and brother Gordon Winton Dougherty.
Visitation will be held at Green Oaks Funeral Home, Thursday, July 19, 2012, between the hours of 5:00-9:00 P.M. Visitation will continue Friday, July 20, 2012 at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Road, from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Funeral service begins at 11:00. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Cody Dougherty, Eric Davis, Todd Denham, Paul-Michael Fryday, Micah Robinson, Don Ray "Buck" Furr and Julius "Randy" Furr. His honorary Pall bearers will include all members of the Charles Dougherty Big Alabama Hunting Club.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
