LSU Hilltop Arboretum Highlights 3 Central Gardens in Tour

By  |

The final day of the LSU Hilltop Arboretum Garden Tours will be their Sunday Afternoon in Central tour. In just 3 weekends, on Sunday, June 24th, the tour will take off at 1 PM and last until 5 PM, visiting the following homes:

    Kim and Lamar Bevil
    5177 Roy Avenue
    Central, 70739
Kim and Lamar Bevil invite you to visit their garden to see how you can turn a small subdivision’s backyard landscaping into an oasis of peace and serenity. There’s no need to go on a vacation in order to enjoy the scenery; it can be right in your own backyard. The perfect placement of ‘Hanna Ray’ patio trees, the interesting use of annual and perennial color, perfect seating areas that are covered and uncovered, the gentle sounds of urn fountains are all there, along with a swimming pool for you to refresh yourself.
One of the unusual attractions that you will see is a working greenhouse that blends perfectly into their landscaping. Another special attraction is a variety of handmade tiles that are placed throughout their garden. These special tiles are made by some wonderful children at Arlington Preparatory Academy. Along with this beautiful landscaping, the Bevil’s have created a perfect wildlife sanctuary that includes hummingbirds and butterflies.

    Ceily and Brad Burkett
    5121 Bayonne Drive
    Central, 70739
The garden of Ceily and Brad Burkett is nestled under hardwood and pine trees in a rural setting in Geo Je’s Subdivision. The entrance shade garden is flanked by two live oaks and an array of annual flowers that brighten up the space. Mr. Pizzalota’s roses (Ceily’s father) and other pass-along plants take center stage growing along a white picket fence. A backyard deck is shaded by the canopy of another live oak tree. A water fountain surrounded by gardenia complete the family gathering space.

    Janet Anderson
    13423 Palomino Drive
    Central, 70739
Janet Anderson’s garden is set in a rural landscape with groves of trees and a view of a lake that attracts a variety of birds and wildlife throughout the year in Bridlewood Subdivision. Don’t miss the opportunity to stroll down to the lake and sit on the bench tucked under the trees. The backyard outdoor living space is a new addition to the garden that Janet co-designed with Kim Bevil.

Tickets for the tour are available at each garden the day of the tour. A single tour ticket is $20.  Tickets are also available online at www.lsu.edu, or call 225-767-6916, or email [email protected] for more information.
