Help Blackwater UMC Choir Sing in New York City!

By  |

Blackwater United Methodist Chancel Choir auditioned and was invited by Masterworks in New York City to be a part of the Patchwork Choir at the Lincoln Center.  This choir is made up of very selected choirs across the nation.  On Saturday, June 9, 2012,  they will perform Mozart's "Requiem".  Blackwater's choir is very honored to receive this invitation and bring recognition to our church and the Central community.

In order for the seventeen members of the choir that are able to travel to New York they need to raise funds to offset some of their costs for travel and hotel fees.  Dr. and Mrs. Russell Westfall has graciously opened their home for a cello/piano concert.  Dr. Russ and Nancy Westfall are new to the Central Community and are avid supporters of the Musical Arts.  They are inviting the Central community to join them in supporting the Blackwater Choir with this concert.

The concert cellist is Dr. Jee-Yeoum Ko, a native Korean, who began playing piano at age 5 and cello at age 13.  Winning scholarships she was accepted into Chung Ang Univ. in Korea and graduated with her M.A.  She continued her studies in Mannheim, Germany and was recruited by Babara Theim to study in the U.S.  She earned her doctoral degree at LSU, where she also was teaching assistant.  She was also the Associate Principle of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Acadian Symphony Orchestra in Lafayette.  She has won numerous awards.  Dr. Ko joined the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) as an artist teacher and in May 2009 as chair of the Classical Instrumental Department.  Dr. Ko also is a founder and leader of a New Orleans-based string quartet comprised of members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and NOCCA's classical music faculty.

Dr. Ko is accompanied by Mr. Chia-Hsing Lin, pianist.  Mr.Lin has won many International Competitions and performing in many Concert Series including the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago.  In 2006 he was recognized as the best accompanist in the Grandin Festival.  He is currently completing his D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.

The concert will be held on Saturday, April 14 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the home of Dr. Westfall located at 15711 Four Oaks Drive, City of Central, LA  70770.  Four Oaks is located off Denham Road nr Greenwell Springs Rd.  Refreshments will follow the concert.  Cost per person is $15.00.

Please RSVP at salonconcertforbwmchoir@gmail.com by Saturday, April 7.  All proceeds to go toward the BUMC choir expenses.
