St Alphonsus Students Sharpen their Math Skills to Help Save Lives

        Students at St. Alphonsus are once again getting their math skills ready to help save lives.  Their annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon will be kicking off on February 9^th.  St. Jude Math-A-Thon is an educational program that teaches kids the importance of math while helping children with cancer and other deadly diseases. Students ask family and friends to sponsor their participation in the program.  Each student then completes math problems in a Funbook or online.  Once the problems are completed, the student collects the pledges from their sponsors and returns the money to school to be sent to St. Jude.

          Through the Math-A-Thon students make it possible for St. Jude to treat the world’s sickest children battling cancer and other deadly diseases, The great part is that St. Jude does this at no cost to the families of these children! No family is ever asked to pay St Jude for the care their child receives. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent to almost 80 percent today.  To learn more about St. Jude, please visit www.stjude.org.
