Killing in Central Woods 9/19/08:
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a man for his part in a late night shooting in Central. Deputies say it was all over a parked truck.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex on Forest Grove Avenue, just off Wax Road near Sullivan. Deputies say 35 year old Carlos Lainez was sitting inside his truck outside the complex when the victim, Dereke Perry, allegedly started yelling and threatening him. Lainez reportedly told Perry he had a gun. More threats ensued and deputies say when Perry reached inside to grab the gun from Lainez, the gun went off and killed him.
Lainez called 911 to report the incident. He was arrested when authorities arrived. Deputies have charged Carlos Lainez with manslaughter. He’s in parish prison at this hour.
