In Memoriam: Allen Caughman Johnson

    A veteran of World War II, he received the following medals for his service: Bronze Star, for going above and beyond the call of duty; European Theater medal, with silver service star for serving in five major campaigns; Belgium Bronze and Belgium Silver stars, Efficiency, Honor and Fidelity award and World War II Victory Medal. Upon returning from service to his country, he completed his associate degree at Clark College, then graduated from Mississippi College as he pastored churches in Mississippi. He earned his master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Our father was the richest man we knew, not in Earthly terms but in spiritual prosperity. There was never a time, when the opportunity presented itself, where he failed to share Christ with anyone God placed in his path. This pathway led him to relationships that he is renewing today in heaven and tomorrow when we join him. God's greatest blessing on our father was the relationship with his partner in ministry and wife of 69 plus years, our mom. He retired from the pastorate at First Baptist Church, Baker, in 1984, but he never retired from the ministry. He died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. Visitation at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge, Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church Thursday, Sept. 1, from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Kevin Hand and the Rev. Dennis McNally. Burial in the church cemetery. Survived by his wife of 69 years and seven months, Earlene Tullos Johnson; daughter, Sarah Kennedy, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three sons and their wives, Stan Johnson and wife Patti, of Hammond, Steve Johnson and wife Daryl, of Central, Sam Johnson and wife Teri, of Zachary; brother, Travis Johnson and wife Rita, of Hattiesburg; nine grandchildren, Laura Craven, Larry Johnson, Craig Johnson, Kyle Robertson, Stephen Kennedy, Scott Kennedy, Jaime Ashford, Steven Johnson, and Scott Johnson; and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Wells Kennedy; and grandson, Drew Johnson. Pallbearers will be Kyle Robertson, Stephen Kennedy, Larry Johnson, Craig Johnson, Scott Johnson, and Steven Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are the Pathfinders Sunday School class of Zoar Baptist Church, the Tuesday Night Music Group and Drew Johnson.
