Overcoming Disappointments

Phil 3:13-14, “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  (NIV)

There is a great story in Luke Chapter 24 where two of Jesus’ disciples are walking from Jerusalem to Emaus discussing the latest events.  They were so sad and disappointed because a couple of days earlier Jesus had been crucified.  Jesus then began to walk along side them but they did not recognize Him.  He asked them why they were so downhearted and they could not believe that he hadn’t heard of the latest news in Jerusalem!  Jesus was crucified!  Our dreams are dead! That is why we are so sad!

They were so blinded by their disappointment they couldn’t see Jesus when He was walking right alongside them.  We all get disappointed but we should not allow our disappointments to control our lives or snuff out our dreams.  Last Friday’s disappointment is old news. This is a new day, a new week; Jesus is alive no matter what happened yesterday or last week.  Get over it, forgive, get up and let’s move on!
