BREC Greenwell Springs Park Planning Meeting Tuesday Night

By  |

Planning for the Greenwell Springs historic site will begin at a public meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Central Public Library, 11260 Joor Road.

BREC’s Greenwell Springs Park, located at 23260 Greenwell Springs Road, is an 80-acre parcel of land alongside the Amite River that was once the camp for soldiers who were involved in the Battle of Baton Rouge during the Civil War. The land has seven natural springs that were known for their healing powers and their ability to cure common ailments. During the Civil War era, the area was host to large retreat homes for wealthy families from Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

BREC and the State of Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals worked together so BREC could feature the site’s history with walking trails alongside the Amite River, interpretive programs and tours around the seven springs and the original springhouse. The site will also feature open space and outdoor pavilions.

BREC invites the public to attend the meeting to discuss this project.
