Having just opened their brand new facility here in Central yesterday, orthodontists Stephen Sherman and David Balhoff are ready to serve the residents of Central.  Seeing the growth the area has experienced recently, the doctors decided to move their Denham Springs office to the old Computer Evolutions location, next to Callihan Law Firm on Wax Rd.  After extensive renovation, the warm and inviting 4 station treatment bay, along with a records room for impressions and panoramic xrays, is ready to receive new patients.  Drs. Sherman and Balhoff offer state of the art technology in treating any number of orthodontic issues.  “InOvation R” metal braces, “Clarity” ceramic (clear) braces, and “Invisalign” (transparent aligners) braces are all options the doctors can select from to best treat their patients’ needs.  The initial exam determines what issues a patient faces and the best treatment with the shortest time requirements and lowest cost that will correct those issues.  The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a child’s first visit to the orthodontist at 7 years of age.  This allows the doctor to track the child’s development and tooth eruption, so that treatment can begin at the earliest stage possible to prevent more serious complications later.  Adults, too, can benefit from orthodontics.  Crooked teeth and a bad bite (malocclusion) are not just cosmetic issues – they can have adverse effects on gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of tooth enamel, headaches, and even jaw joint pain (TMJ).

Stephen L. Sherman, DDS, MS, has his Bachelor of Science from LSU, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the LSU School of Dentistry in 1983.  He was honored by the C Edmund Kells Honor Society for academic achievement.  In 1985, he received his Maser of Science from the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry Orthodontics Department.  He received the honor of Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1991.  Dr. Sherman has also completed a comprehensive course in functional occlusion and temporomandibular joint health and stability from the Roth/Williams Center for Functional Occlusion in San Francisco.  In 2004 he completed the demanding requirements for admission to the MidWest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, one of only 2 Louisiana orthodontists to do so.  He is a past president of both the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association and the Louisiana Orthodontic Association.  David Balhoff, DDS, received his Bachelor of Science from LSU and graduated from the LSU School of Dentistry.  He was given the Dean’s Outstanding Senior Dental Student Award and the LSU School of Dentistry Alumni Association Leadership Award.  He is a member of the C Edmund Kells Honor Society and was awarded membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society for outstanding academic and clinical achievement.  Dr. Balhoff is past president of the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association.  These highly qualified orthodontists are aided by their well trained staff of orthodontic assistants and x-ray technicians and are waiting to serve you.  Call Drs. Sherman and Balhoff at 769-1276, or stop by their office at 14465 Wax Rd., Ste B.  Their Central office will be open every other Wednesday.
