Central Exploring Appeal of Census Results

By  |

Mayor Mac Watts reports this morning that the City of Central is taking the first steps toward a possible appeal of the recently released Census.  According to the 2010 Census results the population of Central is 26,864.  The issue arises in that estimates believed to be accurate at incorporation of the City over five years ago were higher than this.  Additionally, the Central school system has since grown siginificantly and new homes have been built at a rapid pace.  All of this seems to run counter to the reported population.  At stake for Central are both economic and representational issues which are based on population.  One possible explanation for an undercount would be the five zip codes Central must use, with three of the five being shared with neighboring cities or communities.  Watch CentralSpeaks.com for updates on this issue.
