The Career Center at the Main Library at Goodwood serves employees who are being terminated, those seeking new skills and responsibilities in the current workplace, people just entering or re-entering the workforce and those looking to change careers. It offers FREE programs and events to help job seekers succeed.  Here are the events happening this month: 
Social Media for the Job Search:  Did you know social media platforms aren’t only for connecting with family and friends? They have become an effective resource on the hunt for a new or better job. Come to the Pride-Chaneyville Branch Library, 13600 Pride-Port Hudson Road, at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, for a FREE workshop on how to use social media in your job search! Experienced career coach Anne Nowak of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Career Center will lead the discussion.
Weekend Warriors: Careers in the National Guard:  Adults and teens interested in learning about service in the National Guard will want to come to the Main Library at Goodwood, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, for a FREE informational seminar led by Master Sgt. Chris Barraco of the Louisiana Air National Guard and Sergeant 1st Class Robert Burns of the Louisiana Army National Guard. Find out how you can serve your state and country while working a regular job and at the same time learn new skills, earn money, get free college tuition and obtain job training! Resumé Writing Seminar:  Lynnette Lee of the Career Center will lead a FREE workshop for adults on writing a great resumé! Come to the Delmont Gardens Branch Library, 3351 Lorraine St., at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 31, to find out how to structure your resumé so that it showcases your most valuable skills. Learn formatting techniques that will make your resumé look clean and professional. You’ll learn about the most common red flags employers look for on resumés and how to avoid them.
