Louisiana Spirit Crisis Counseling

By  |

Press Release
Louisiana Spirit Crisis Counseling is a program of the Louisiana Department of Health. Commonly referred to as "Louisiana Spirit,” the program was put in place following the August flooding to offer mental health and crisis counseling to people who are recovering from the flood.
Over the next several months, Louisiana Spirit will be offering services to individuals and families in the City of Central. Teams will be going door-to-door to provide crisis counseling along with information on resources and services that are available. For example, many people do not know there is free disaster legal help available. Check out www.slls.org. Through Louisiana Spirit, people can also get information on where to find discounted furniture. These are examples of the types of resources that Louisiana Spirit can offer those who have been flooded.
Team members can be identified by their brightly colored shirts (blue, yellow, orange, or red) with the Louisiana Spirit logo on the front.  All team members will have state-issued identification badges that will be visible.
Louisiana Spirit is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is under the auspice of the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health (DHH/OBH) in Baton Rouge.
