Greenwell Springs Youth Riders 58th Annual Rodeo This Weekend
The Greenwell Springs Youth Riders will perform in their 58th Annual Rodeo, one of the longest running rodeos in the state of Louisiana, on May 6 and 7 at the BREC Shady Park Arena off of Greenwell Springs Road. Pre Rodeo Events start at 7:00 p.m. and Rodeo at 8:00 p.m.
The Youth Riders are a precision drill team that performs an impressive flag presentation and drill performance on horses. By invitation, the Youth Riders perform at rodeos, parades, and other equestrian events in Louisiana and throughout the South. This family oriented organization was established nearly 60 years ago as a Boy Scout troop. They soon allowed girls and became the Greenwell Springs Youth Riders. It has evolved into an outstanding group of youths between the ages of eight to eighteen. This non-profit group promotes horsemanship, teamwork, and a sense of value to hundreds of kids. The success and longevity of this team is contributed to the dedication of the parents, support of the community, and a child’s love of riding a horse.
The annual Rodeo is the groups only fundraiser. It provides equipment and tack for the members as well as senior scholarships. The Greenwell Springs Youth Riders Rodeo starts at 8 p.m. each night, Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. Tickets are $10 Adults; $5 Students to age 17; and Free for ages 5 and under. Pre Rodeo Events start at 7:00pm and include Mutton Busting (kids 6 yrs and under riding sheep) and Needle in the Haystack. Kids ages 6 and under and ages 7 to 12 can try to win $50.00 cash!
