New Blackwater Bayou Bridge Opens to Traffic Ahead of Schedule

By  |

Press Release

Last Thursday, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that the Blackwater Bayou Bridge along La. 410 in East Baton Rouge Parish is nearing completion and opened to traffic March 24, 2016, which is 22 days ahead of schedule.

Construction work on the $1.4 million project, which began in September 2015, removed the old timber Blackwater Bayou Bridge and replaced it with a concrete bridge with improved drainage. The roadway on each side of the bridge was also replaced. While the new bridge is now open to traffic, workers will continue to be present to install permanent striping, clean up construction equipment, and make other non-travel related adjustments to drainage. Motorists can expect lane closures through the end of construction in late April, weather permitting.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the area and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near the work zone.
