The Comite Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association has elected Mike Gardner as its President for 2016. Gardner will begin his third year as Chapter President.  He was a founding member of the chapter when it was established in 2014. The Comite Chapter covers Central, Zachary, Baker and Pride and represents 522 of the 22,000 statewide membership.
Gardner is a teacher at Central Middle School, a Central business owner and resident. He grew up fishing in Venice with his dad and desires to pass on the tradition to the next generation, including his nephew, Gardner.
"The CCA Comite Chapter is a fairly new chapter, but has strong potential," said Gardner.  "In the Comite area, we have an incredible number of dedicated fishermen and people who enjoy the outdoors. As anglers, it is our responsibility to be good stewards of our resources. Together, CCA Comite’s leadership, members and supporters will do just that."
2015 was a fantastic year for the CCA Comite Chapter. The chapter held a very successful membership banquet, a fishing seminar and a youth casting contest at the Central Tailgate. 2016 plans include a Spring Fishing Seminar, participation in Cooking In Central, supporting the CHS Fishing Team, a youth education program, and the Annual Membership Banquet. The CCA Comite Chapter will continue to focus on coastal conservation, outreach and advocacy while finding new ways to benefit the local community.
“Mike Gardner is one of CCA Louisiana’s finest volunteers, and we are fortunate to have him serve as president of the Comite Chapter," said David Cresson, CEO of CCA Louisiana. "Our goal for this chapter and in this area is to further our reach and engage more members and volunteers in our conservation and advocacy efforts.  Under Mike’s leadership, I am confident we will reach this goal.”
The Comite Chapter has 4 representatives on the CCA Louisiana State Board of Directors in 2016.  They are Gardner, TJ Johnson, Dan Danburg and J’Mikel Dykes.
The next CCA Comite Chapter event is the Spring Fishing Seminar held on Thursday, February 18 at Kristenwood in Central. It is open to CCA members and the public. Proceeds will benefit the CHS Fishing Team. Guest speakers will share fishing tips, techniques and hot spots with those in attendance. The Annual CCA Comite Chapter Membership Banquet is scheduled for August 11, 2016.
