Heroes for Five Years: St. Alphonsus Wins OLOL Blood Bank Award
On February 5, 2016, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church received the award for having the most blood donated by a Catholic Church from the Blood Bank at OLOL for 2015. We had over 300 units of blood/blood products donated in 2015. However this is not the first award for St. Alphonsus. This is the 5th year in a row! That is quite the accomplishment.
The Knights of Columbus do a wonderful job running the drives, even giving free lunches to all that donate at all four of the blood drives held every year. The blood drives are promoted by the Parish Nurse, Stephanie Gaudin. But the real heroes are those from St. Alphonsus who take the time to donate. Each unit can help up to three people.
In recognition of those wonderful donors, St. Alphonsus held Blood Donor Sunday on January 31st at the 10AM Mass. Those present were recognized and Fr. Mike Moroney said a special Blessing for them.
Taking the time to donate blood is truly love in action—a wonderful way to show love for your dear neighbor. The next blood drive at St. Alphonsus is February 21st. Shrimp spaghetti is on the menu for the free lunch. Everyone is invited to give because after all, blood is ecumenical.
