Central High boys basketball team opened their 2015-16 basketball season at Catholic High in the Thanksgiving Shoot Out against Glen Oaks High. It was the first regular season game for newly hired Central coach, Brian Hargroder, and he faced off against long time Glen Oaks coach, Harvey Adger. Central had a slow start and were outscored 13 to 4 in the opening quarter. Central had to incorporate four players who just wrapped up their football season in West Monroe. At halftime Glen Oaks led 28 to 12. Central struggled with thirteen turnovers in the first half and needed to regroup for the second half. In the fourth quarter Central began to gel as a team and put up 18 points in that quarter alone. The second half was a big improvement for the young Central team as they rallied to within 6 pints in that 4th quarter.
They were led by senior, Austin Stewart, who had 10 4th quarter points on his own. He led the Wildcats with 18 points and 2 steals. In the end Central could not overcome it’s big first half deficit and the final score was 50-36. Sophomore Hunter Arnold grabbed a team high 5 rebounds and junior Josh Herbert hit 2 fourth quarter 3 point shots to contribute 6 points. For the night Central shot 11 for 47 from the field and 9 for 14 from the free throw line. In the coming games they will look to improve on both of their shooting percentages. The Wildcats look to bounce back against Ponchatoula High on Tuesday, November 24, at Catholic High.
