The Central Chamber Report: ‘Tis the Season

By  |

The Holiday season is upon us!  “Tis the Season to be Busy!” The Central Chamber is excited to offer so many activities over the next few weeks.  So I would like to update you on the variety of activities we will have taking place.
This Saturday, November 14 we will hold our 5th annual Miss City of Central Pageant.  The Pageant was started so that we could have a “Miss City of Central” to represent our city at a variety of events.  The pageant is open to all ages 0 – 24 years and will be held at the CHS auditorium from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Two weeks later on November 28, we will hold the 4th annual Running of the Elves 5K.  This event was a part of our Christmas Parade.  However, with the increase in the participation we decided to make it the kick off for our Shop Small Business campaign in Central.  This event will be held at the Central Intermediate and Middle School and travel down Sullivan, Joor, and Gurney.
As mentioned, the Shop Small Business campaign starts on Saturday, November 28 and will run through December 13.  This is a campaign we are truly excited about as it focuses on and encourages shopping in Central.  There will be several businesses that will be participating in this event.  Customers will be allowed to have a Shop Small Card punched for every dollar they spend.  When the card has been completely utilized, the completed cards are turned in to the chamber and a drawing is held for shopping sprees in Central.  Cards and flyers will be sent home with the students and will be available at participating merchants.
December 3 we hold our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  There will be a display of the Nativity, music provided by the CHS Jazz Ensemble and CPS Children’s Choir, a reading of the Christmas Story, and the  lighting of the Christmas Tree.  We will also have Santa and the Coca Cola Christmas Truck.
December 5 the 29th Annual Central Christmas Parade will be held.  The participants will collect at the parking lot of Zoar Baptist and will roll down Joor Road starting at 10 a.m. This is always a popular event in Central and will be a great time for all!
Even though it is not a Chamber activity, please be aware that on November 19 there will be a Central Community Thanksgiving and Worship Service sponsored by the Central Area Pastors’ Association and hosted at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.  7:00 p.m. start time.
We hope that you will be able to participate in some of these events! For more information you can call the Chamber Office at 261-5818 or visit our website: cityofcentralchamber.com.  Have a blessed Holiday Season!
