Central racked up 275 yards on the ground and another 150 in the air in breezing past Mentorship Academy 52-6 in the season opener last Friday. Jeff Campbell led all rushers with 106 yards on 6 carries while QB Gabe Brown spread the passing game around to five players, going 9-for-15 for 150 yards.
The Wildcat defense played strong, shutting down Mentorship on almost every drive until late in the game. Josh Herbert led the defense with four tackles, one assist, and two tackles-for-loss, and Jearlmiah Ward came just a few yards shy of a pick-six with his interception return of 69 yards.
Lizzie Wicker also made history as the first female varsity football player to score for the Wildcats. Lizzie split the uprights for an extra point early in the game.
Central hosts a tough Dutchtown team this Friday at 7 p.m., so make your plans to come out and support the team. If you can’t make it to Wildcat Stadium, the Central Stat Care radio broadcast can be heard on Radio Amor 91.9 FM beginning at 6:45.
